SEAN Dyche has put the plaudits for his Premier League manager of the year nomination down to his players.

The Clarets boss is one of six top flight managers in the running for the award, which is decided partly by public vote and partly by a panel of Premier League legends.

The Burnley boss is up alongside Manchester City's title-winning chief Pep Guardiola, Liverpool's Jurgen Klopp, Rafa Benitez of Newcastle, Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson and Brighton and Hove Albion manager Chris Hughton.

Dyche has guided the Clarets to seventh in the Premier League this season and a first European campaign in 51 years, but insists the praise should be going to the players rather than him.

"The manager of the year can only come from the players. Without them you can’t be manager of the year," he said.

"They deserve whatever comes, if anything comes."

It's an award nomination double for Burnley, with James Tarkowski up for the Premier League player of the season honour.

The Clarets centre back is on the six man shortlist for the prestigious award of a standout season at Turf Moor that has seen him win a first England cap while helping Burnley to 11 clean sheets.

The 25-year-old is in esteemed company on the shortlist, alongside Kevin De Bruyne (Manchester City), Mohamed Salah (Liverpool), Harry Kane (Tottenham Hotspur), David De Gea (Manchester United) and Raheem Sterling (Manchester City).

While Dyche doesn't expect his centre back to win the award, he believes there is credit in just being recognised.

"Tarky, why not? I saw the list, to be recognised in that list of players is a fantastic achievement, just to be recognised," he said.

"I don’t think he’ll win it. Not because I don’t think he’s a great player, but because there’s other players in there who have had incredible seasons.

"To be recognised is a fantastic achievement."

Tarkowski is far from the only outstanding player in Burnley's squad this season, with Dyche name checking two of his long-term injury victims for their contributions, as well as the likes of Ashley Barnes, Nick Pope and Kevin Long.

"There’s been some big performers, the players deserve a huge amount of credit," he said.

"We’re still missing Robbie Brady, he was outstanding the last four or five games before he got injured, Steven Defour having a fantastic season this season. Woody has had spells with injuries.

"Barnesy has had a great season, the growth in Tarky and Popey. Kevin Long of course, he’s been sitting for years with people saying ‘what does that Kevin Long do?’.

"The experience he will gain from games like (Sunday) is fantastic.

"The story behind the story is one I believe in and it’s a fantastic story."

The official Premier League awards will see a panel of top flight legends such as Alan Shearer, Thierry Henry and Rio Ferdinand cast their votes.

Public votes will then represent 10 per cent of the total votes and be combined with those of the panel in deciding who will receive the awards.

The player of the season award winner will be announced on Sunday (May 13) and the manager of the season award at the League Managers' Association awards evening on Tuesday, May 15.
