ROVERS striker Marcus Antonsson is ready to answer Tony Mowbray’s call if he’s handed his debut at Bradford City this afternoon.

The Swedish forward arrived at Ewood Park last week from Leeds United and is expected to be included in a matchday squad for the first time today (kick-off 3pm).

The 26-year-old watched last weekend’s defeat to Doncaster from the stands, but after a full week’s training under his belt is aiming to play his part as Rovers eye their first points of the new season.

“I think that’s been important,” Antonsson said of a full week working with his new team-mates.

“My goal is to play, you want to play every game, score goals and work hard for your team-mates.

“You never know, I need to earn the trust of the manager and then perform when I’m playing.

“But I feel ready to go straight in to the team if the gaffer wants me to.”

Antonsson had trained for just one session before the Doncaster game, after sealing his season-long loan move from Elland Road.

And he admits he understood the decision of manager Mowbray not to thrust him straight in to the action against Doncaster.

He added: “When I was talking to the gaffer it was a decision that it wasn’t right to just train for one session and then go straight in to the game and take the place of someone who had been working for all the pre-season.

“It’s important to prepare well for a game.

“I’ve had a week now to build relationships with the players and I think that is the best way to do it.”

Rovers will look to bounce back from a poor result, and performance, against Doncaster, as they eye their first league points of the season.

Antonsson admits there has been some disappointment among the squad after the opening two results, but says there is a focus on putting it right at Bradford.

And he says his new team-mates have made it easy for him to settle in to life at his club.

“It’s a really good group of lads,” he said.

“It’s easy to come in here from outside and be a part of it straight away, so I’m happy.

“Of course we concentrate on moving forward.

“You need to be disappointed but then you have to look forward to the next game.

“I really feel that we are well prepared for the weekend.”
