FEW teenagers enjoy the introduction to the Premier League that came Dan Agyei's way last season.

Agyei, then 19, returned to Turf Moor last January after a loan spell at League One Coventry City and did enough to earn three top flight cameos off the bench in the second half of 2016/17.

A debut arrived at Anfield against Liverpool, before another 15 minute run out at Goodison Park against Everton. Then came a home debut for Agyei, who turned 20 this summer, coming off the bench against Jose Mourinho's Manchester United.

Although the Clarets were defeated in all three games it was a dream start to life in the Premier League for Agyei.

The former AFC Wimbledon youngster was with Burnley at Carton House in Ireland last week and said his feet had now returned to the ground after his end to last season, and he is determined to push on from that experience.

"I’m back down to earth now. I want to keep going, I’m ambitious and I want to keep pushing myself to another level," Agyei said.

"It was really challenging, but it was good to get some minutes and some touches of the ball and try and make an impact.

"Against Liverpool the manager said when you get the ball just try and drive at them and do what you know you can do."

Those three appearances have only fuelled the belief inside Agyei, who has now seen the standard he needs to reach if he is to make it at the top of the game.

"I’ve seen the levels I need and I believe if I keep working hard I can get there," he said.

Agyei trained regularly with the first team in the second half of last season but he feels he will have benefited from last week's Ireland training camp, where he spent more time around the senior professionals and enjoyed the chance to work alongside the other strikers in Sean Dyche's squad.

"It’s a good experience, it can motivate you a bit more seeing how these top players are conducting themselves in this environment," he said. "It’s going to be really beneficial."

The competition for places in attack has increased with the arrival of Jon Walters this summer, and while Agyei is keen to stay at Turf Moor he isn't ruling out another loan move.

"I’d like to stay here but if I have to go on loan I’d like to do really well there and come back in January and do what I did last season," he said.

"It’s great to be on the bench and coming on but I need more experience in the game as well and I need to get as many minutes as possible."
