MICHAEL Keane's club record move from Burnley to Everton could be completed by the weekend.

The Toffees are closing in on a £25million move for the England international and the Lancashire Telegraph understands the deal could be completed within the next 48 to 72 hours.

Keane, 24, is out of contract in 12 months and rejected Burnley's offer of a new four-year deal last summer, when the Clarets also turned down a £15million bid from Leicester City for his services.

The former Manchester United youngster impressed for Burnley during the 2016/17 campaign, when he won his first two England caps, was nominated for the Professional Footballers' Association Young Player of the Year award and was voted players' player of the year at Turf Moor.

He has been linked with most of the Premier League's top seven during the season but Everton's interest was always strongest, with director of football Steve Walsh a long-term admirer of Keane from his loan spell with Leicester City in the 2012/13 season, and Walsh was the driving force behind the Foxes' interest a year ago before he made the move to Goodison Park.

Towards the end of the campaign Keane was linked a return to Old Trafford, but the Red Devils' capture of Benfica defender Victor Lindelof put paid to the move.

But United will be due 25 per cent of the final fee Everton pay for Keane having negotiated a sell-on clause when he made his loan move from Old Trafford permanent in a £2million move in January 2015.

Barnsley defender Marc Roberts is one centre back who won't be replacing Keane at Turf Moor.

The Clarets were linked with Roberts throughout the January transfer window and his name has surfaced again in recent days. But it is understood the 26-year-old is close to sealing a move to Birmingham City and while he was a player Burnley have monitored he was never a top target.
