TEENAGE Burnley goalkeeper Joe O’Shaughnessy has been picked for a four-day 'selection camp' for the England Under-15 side.

The 14-year-old academy starlet will link up with the Three Lions age-group side, led by former Fulham midfielder Kevin Betsy, for a training get-together in Loughborough from July 31 to August 3.

It is the latest feather in the cap for O’Shaughnessy after he attended an England Under-14 training camp at St George's Park towards the end of last season and he will now hope to impress Betsy enough to be selected for England's Under-15 squad for the forthcoming campaign.

Burnley academy manager Jonathan Pepper said O’Shaughnessy's selection for the camp was a reward both for the player and the club's academy system, with the youngster highly-rated at Turf Moor.

"It’s great recognition for Joe and for the Academy and can only help raise the profile of what we’re doing here," said Pepper.

"I’m sure he will keep his feet on the ground and keep working hard. He’s highly thought of by the staff at the Academy and will hopefully be with us for the long term."

Warrington-based O’Shaughnessy joined the Clarets from Wrexham last year and has been offered a two-year scholarship deal at Turf Moor from his 16th birthday.

He is currently part of the Clarets’ Under-18 set-up and will train with the full-time scholars on day-release from school next season, as well as attending twice-weekly Academy sessions and potentially playing weekly for the Under-16s.

Craig Mawson, Burnley’s Academy Head of Goalkeeping, said hopes were high that O’Shaughnessy could progress through the ranks at Turf Moor if he continues to progress and reaches his potential.

"He’s a good lad who wants to learn and if he fulfils his potential there’s no reason why he can’t progress through the age groups with us," he said.

"This is another step on the road for Joe and we wish him well."
