CRAIG Conway believes everyone within the Blackburn Rovers squad has played their part in the unbeaten run of seven games under Tony Mowbray.

Rovers haven’t lost under their head coach but face two of their toughest tests since Mowbray took charge when they visit Brighton and Reading in the space of four days.

Conway admits Rovers shouldn’t be involved in a relegation scrap with the squad they have, but says they deserve to be where they are in the table after 38 games. Mowbray has used his substitutes to good effect so far in his seven games, and 31-year-old Conway says that’s testament to the squad at his disposal.

“I think people will look at the squad and can’t believe we are where we are in the table, but that means nothing without going out and backing it up,” he said.

“The squad has been used well, we’ve got pretty much a fully fit squad now, lads are coming back and topping up their fitness, so it’s really good to have that squad for the manager to choose from.

“The lads coming on have done really well and it’s been all round good team performances.

“We have a strong squad and everyone has been playing their part.

“You do feel as though everyone is pulling in the right direction.”

Rovers have picked up 11 points from their seven games under Mowbray, but still haven’t been able to pull clear of the bottom three.

They go in to the final eight games still a point from safety, but Conway says all they can do is continue to put points on the board.

He added: “We need to keep picking up as many points as we can.

“We go in to every game with a bit of confidence behind us.

“The momentum is building, we are getting results, the manager has a different style and everyone is turning up and doing well.

“It’s pointless looking back, at the end of the day we’re in the position we are because we deserve to be there, it’s only us that can change it.

“At the minute we’re doing the right things, picking up the right results and long that may that continue.”

All but 12 of Rovers’ 40 points so far this season have come at Ewood Park, but with five of their remaining eight fixtures coming on their travels, they will need to improve on their tally of just two wins away from home.

They have drawn all three of their away games under Mowbray, at Burton, Norwich and Fulham, but haven’t won on the road since November 26 at Newcastle.

But back-to-back 2-2 draws at Norwich and Fulham have given the side confidence ahead of their upcoming fixtures, according to Conway.

“I think that shows how far we’ve come and we feel as though we can get points against anyone,” he said.

“We’ve shown against Newcastle and Derby, we know we’re capable.

“You know what type of teams Norwich and Fulham are, they like to pass the ball, and it was never going to be a case of standing toe-to-toe with them.

“In the first half at Fulham I think we probably showed them a bit too much respect, and allowed them too much possession, but in the second half we showed that we can play and controlled the second half.

“That showed how well we’ve been playing.

“We have massive games coming up and every one is important as the next.”
