I THINK Tony Mowbray is the right man for Rovers.

It was key that they replaced Owen Coyle quickly and they have done that.

There is no question that it is a tough job, Rovers are in the bottom three and have been pretty much all season. The transfer window is closed so there is no scope for any new signings and he will have to work with what he has got.

Having said that, I think he will get the players organised and get some belief back into them.

For weeks we have been saying that Rovers need to tighten up at the back and start keeping some clean sheets. With Tony being a former centre-back that should be an area of strength for him. I think he will be firm but fair and if his playing career is anything to go by he will be a tough taskmaster.

From what I remember of coming up against him when he was playing for Middlesbrough, he was a tough centre-half. He wasn’t a bad footballer but he was very tough to play against and a real old-fashioned defender. I am sure he kicked some lumps out of me during a few games!

But that is what Rovers need. I think the organisation side was lacking under Coyle and the new boss can sort that out and get the players to at least know their jobs and then go from there.

What I think the change in manager will also do is give the squad a kick up the backside. As a player you now have to work that little bit harder to make sure you stay in the side or are in the new manager’s plans.

Because you can be certain that if you’re not performing Tony will make a change. He is that type of character.

He kept pretty much the same starting XI against Burton and a point wasn’t the worst result. Three would have been nice but it is something to build on heading into the Derby game tonight.

The Rams are on a bit of a bad run and it could be good time to play them.

As ever, it will come down to how Rovers do defensively.
