Coyle leaves with Rovers second bottom of the Championship ahead of Friday’s crucial game at Burton Albion.

Rovers legends Alan Shearer and Chris Sutton had their say on Twitter last night - both firing warnings to club owners Venky's

Sutton posted: "What an absolute mess the club is in! It would big a bigger help if a few others left as well!"

Shearer followed: "Come on #Venkys. @Rovers really matters to people, to the fans, to the community, to me. Start showing it some respect before it's too late!"

Speaking on BBC Radio Lancashire, Sutton added: "I can't say I'm overly surprised by it. The rumours are the players were told last week that Owen Coyle wouldn't be taking training this week. If that's the case - it's pretty shocking.

"It's not the issue with the manager, it's an issue with the owners. They've been a disgrace and the fact they don't communicate with the fans is the biggest issue.

"If they communicated in any way, shape or form we may have an understanding of what they are thinking.

"But the fact they've sold all the best players, got good money in, and haven't replaced them - it's just an unbelievable situation.

"When things are slipping and Blackburn Rovers are in freefall and the supporters are seeing all the best players sold and money coming in with no investment - supporters are quite right to ask 'what is going on?'.

"The Venky's are stuck where they are in India and it's reasonable for supporters to think they don't actually care about the club. They've ripped the heart out of the club. What would Jack Walker be thinking?

"It's just an incredible situation."

A statement released by Rovers read: “The decision has been taken in order to give the club the best possible chance of climbing to a position of safety in the Championship in the remaining 15 games, which starts with the big trip to Burton Albion on Friday night.

“The club would like to place on record its thanks to Owen and his staff for all their efforts this season and we wish them well for the future.

“The search for a new manager will begin with immediate effect.”
