GARY Bowyer joked that he will seek answers for his sacking at Blackburn when he takes Blackpool there in the FA Cup fourth round.

Bowyer's current club booked a visit to Ewood Park by beating Championship Barnsley 2-1 in their third-round replay, with Bright Osayi-Samuel scoring in the last minute of extra-time.

The 45-year-old spent more than 11 years at Rovers, which ended in him being sacked as manager in November 2015, and he is already licking his lips at the prospect of a return.

"It will be a great day from that point of view for me and my family. I was there for 11-and-a-half years so it will be special," he said.

"When I got sacked we were in the middle of a three-game unbeaten run so maybe I will be able to ask them why."

The tie at Ewood Park was set up by some last-gasp heroics from Osayi-Samuel, whose composed finish ensured there was no need for penalties, which had looked likely after Angus MacDonald's first goal for Barnsley had cancelled out Kelvin Mellor's early opener.

On a night of shocks in the famous competition, the League Two outfit were well worthy of their second-tier scalp.

"I thought we gave a really good account of ourselves and I am really proud, it has been a monumental effort from the players," Bowyer added.

"The players deserve enormous amounts of credit, a League Two side coming to a fabulous team that Barnsley are and we had a go, we went toe-to-toe. Look at the saves their goalkeeper has made. We didn't come here to defend."
