OWEN Coyle is urging the Blackburn Rovers fans to come out in number and voice to back his side as they go in search of a third consecutive Championship win for the first time in more than 18 months.

Rovers have won back-to-back games to move them out of the bottom three, and will look to continue that forward momentum when they welcome play-off chasing Huddersfield to Ewood Park this afternoon.

They haven’t won three in a row since March 2015 when they enjoyed wins over Sheffield Wednesday, Bolton and Charlton, either side of earning an FA Cup sixth round replay after a 0-0 draw with Liverpool.

Coyle praised the backing of the travelling 1,500 fans in last weekend’s 1-0 victory at Newcastle United - courtesy of Charlie Mulgrew’s winner - believing they sounded more like 15,000 spectators.

And as Rovers prepare to welcome the Terriers to Ewood, Coyle is hoping for similar backing this time around as they try to make it five games unbeaten at their headquarters.

“We’re back at home where we’ve been doing well, we want to continue doing well and try and get those three points,” Coyle said.

“We will be ready for that challenge, we’re looking forward to the game and we’re back at Ewood.

“The fans last week were excellent from the first whistle to the last with the vocal encouragement and that’s what we ask every Saturday – come along get behind those players, and hopefully they will give you a performance that you can be excited about.

“When we bring it together, and I’ve seen it as a manager on the opposing side, Ewood Park can be rocking.

“That’s what we want to try and build.

“Now that won’t happen overnight but we’re hoping over time that bit by bit we can get it back to how it should be.”

Rovers actually go in to the game as the form team, with 17 points from their last 11 games, compared with the 13 points achieved by Huddersfield, who topped the table for much of the early part of the season.

They have since dropped to sixth, but Coyle is well aware of the threat they pose.

However, the Ewood chief is concentrating more on his side as he looks to continue the forward momentum they are building.

He added: “The important thing has been that we’ve had wins from our performances.

“We’ve had performances like that (at Newcastle) where we’ve drawn games and come off on the wrong end of a result.

“We’ve 17 points from our last 11 games which would give you 71 or 72 points over the course of the season which is play-off form.

“That’s what we have got to continue doing, picking up those points, and we’ve yet to have been blessed with a full squad to pick from.

“This is a club with a fantastic history and tradition and we want to put a team on the park that is representative of Blackburn Rovers and the town.

“We have to keep moving forward and building that momentum game after game and that’s what we have to keep striving towards.”

Rovers will be without the suspended Ben Marshall, with teenager Ryan Nyambe poised to make his first Championship start in his place at right-back.

Coyle is also hoping to welcome back defender Gordon Greer, and midfielder Danny Guthrie to his squad, while Huddersfield will be forced in to changes, with Tommy Smith suspended and Mark Hudson and Sean Scannell sidelined by injury.
