ROVERS boss Owen Coyle said his side deserved at least a point from their trip to Ashton Gate - and should have taken all three.

Aaron Wilbraham's late deflected strike grabbed the win for City in front of a record home crowd.

But Coyle felt his side bossed the first half, should have been in front by the break, and were dealing well with the home side's pressure untiil Wilbraham struck in the 88th minute.

"It’s a huge disappointment - we were excellent today," he said afterwards.

“In the first half I felt we should have been in front, we controlled the game.

“They had a little period in the second half, if truth be told, but then we came back into it again and started creating one or two chances.

“Then they threw everything forward, but with dealt with that I don’t recall Jason Steele making a save.

“We had a corner, and from that they get a free-kick. From that the boy’s whacked one up the park and obviously it’s there for us to deal with, but we’ve made a mistake.

“But even from then we’ve still got four men back to challenge the ball, but the shot, which Steele is saving comfortably if it’s on target, took a wicked deflection.

“There’s no doubt it was really cruel luck, but the level of performance was so high.

“Normally if you perform like that on the road it will result in three points and not just one, so that’s the huge disappointment.

“But you see the effort, you see the energy they’re putting in, you see a lot of quality at times as well, so the real frustration is getting no points on the back of what I felt was a very good away performance.

“We controlled it in the first half and we probably should have been in front from that, the way we moved the ball.

“But it was still there for us in the second half to go again.

“I felt for the first 10 minutes they started the second half better than us and pout us under a little bit of pressure - a lot of balls into the box but not really any goals chances.

“Then all of a sudden we got a foot on it again and we started passing and moving, which we want to do.

“That resulted in a chance that I thought was teed up fro Craig Conway but it’s just fell behind him.

“But there was some good moves like that - passing and moving, getting down the sides of them.

“So I’m gutted for the players, how much they put in, I;m gutted for the fans who came and got behind the team and travelled far to watch them.

“Certainly that performances was worthy of leaving with points, but it can be a cruel game.

“What we’ve got to understand is we need to cut out the individual mistakes and then  we would be leaving with points.

“It’s disappointing considering how well we did during the week, it would have been a wonderful week to come and get a positive result and I felt we did enough to get it.

“It’s a hard one to take.”
