ROVERS moving out of the bottom three will give everyone at the club a psychological boost, even though boss Owen Coyle says it doesn't matter to him.

That's because the Scot is confident his side will finish out of the Championship quicksand come the end of the season.

He told the Lancashire Telegraph: "Because of our poor start, we’ve been there from day one.

"Nobody wants to be in there, but we know that over the 46 games that we won’t be because of what we’re putting in place and how hard the players are working.

"What we’re doing by winning games is that other teams then all of a sudden start looking over their shoulders and say, ‘Oh, Blackburn have won again’.

"The sooner you’re out of it the better, picking up points and starting to move up the table. To do that we need to keep winning games.

"For me it doesn’t matter because I know over the 46 games we won’t be in there, but I do understand that psychologically it can help people and the club as a whole."

The jump above the dreaded drop line was achieved with Tuesday night's 2-1 win over Nottingham Forest, although Rovers did give themselves some nervy moments towards the end.

Jason Steele's error allowed Damien Perquis to stab home in injury-time and Coyle accepted it was disappointing to lose the clean sheet after achieving a first shutout of the season against Ipswich three days earlier.

"That was a source of frustration," he said.

"The long throw has come through traffic, bounced twice, Steeley’s got a hand to it and unfortunately for him it’s fallen to the lad.

"Of course, that gives you a nervous two minutes or whatever it was.

"That being said, we picked ourselves up and dealt with it."
