"I am delighted that Duncan Fletcher has gone and from what I've seen of Peter Moores is encouraging.

I never agreed with Duncan's policy of rest. I think the policy of playing is a better policy.

Every time you ask a player Where did you learn the game' they always say 'Out in the middle.' Bowlers learn and get fit by bowling. Ours used to get fit by sitting on their backside.

Duncan went on about players playing too much county cricket. I told him that I didn't think that was the case. I said to him that the players play too much international cricket.

England get their players from county cricket and if we don't do something within the next two or three years to monitor the talent coming through and allow that talent to play with the best players we'll be in trouble.

The Ashes win in 2005 papered over a lot of cracks in our system. The 2006/7 Ashes series proved that.

All the players spoke very highly of Fletcher when he left but let's just see what they say when books are written in five or 10 years' time.

But what I've seen from Peter has been very encouraging so far.

He's got players back playing county cricket and that can only be good for the players, the competition and the England set-up."
