Stanley chairman Eric Whalley has revealed the club is on the verge of signing a new striker and centre-half.

Whalley said the striker has league experience, but played non-league football last season, scoring 28 goals.

And he said the Reds were also hopeful of adding the defender from the Scottish Premier League by the end of the week, adding both were undergoing stringent medicals in the next few days.

He said: "By the end of this week we should know more, but they're both experienced players.

"(The defender) has had an operation in the close season and the striker scored a lot of goals in non league last year."
