ANDRE Gray says he never doubted he would find the net in the top flight after breaking his Premier League duck against Liverpool on Saturday.

The Clarets striker, 25, bagged his side’s second goal against the Reds, racing onto Steven Defour’s pass and cutting inside Jordan Henderson and Ragnar Klavan before firing past Simon Mignolet.

Last season’s Championship leading scorer was delighted to hit the mark in only his second top flight game after drawing a blank against Swansea the weekend before.

He said: “For me, getting off the mark in the Premier League is a massive achievement.

“I always felt I could score at this level. I only got a couple of half chances this week, but it felt good to open my account against a really good side.

“I know we’ll make chances and it’s just a question of showing the right composure.

“I enjoyed the goal, but I think if this had been a Championship game I might have expected to come away with a hat-trick. I’ve just got to believe in myself.

“There were a couple of times today when I probably tried to take an extra touch instead of carrying on driving, but it’s part of the learning curve.

“I managed to beat a couple of defenders for the goal, but when I had the chances in the second half I tried to be a bit too clever and didn’t show the right awareness of what was on.

“But that will come with time and experience of playing at this level.”

Gray was also delighted for the Clarets to get a win on the board so early in the season after it took them 11 games last time, and revealed they had done their homework on Jurgen Klopp’s men.

He said: “It was massive for us to get that first win so early.

“I felt we deserved something last week, and when you look at this fixture you think it’s not the easiest game to bounce back from a defeat against Swansea.

“But I think we proved we are ready for this league.

“We got off to a great start – we had a game plan from watching tapes of them throughout the week where they play it out from the back.

“We tried to cut that out and I thought we managed to do that quite well.”
