As a result Clarets boss Sean Dyche will not rush a decision on who to loan out.

“We’ll see about that, it’s too early for that with the squad situation, the loan situation has changed, so we have to be careful,” he said.

“We have to make sure we have enough in our locker to take on a Premier League season, so we’re not in a rush to do anything like that.

“You can’t put them out for a month and bring them back, so you have no choice other than to be cautious and wise, whichever way you look at it.”

League One side Coventry City are understood to be interested in taking Kevin Long on loan, but the 25-year-old has featured in both pre-season friendlies so far for Burnley and with Michael Keane’s future still not entirely clear amid interest from Leicester City he is unlikely to be loaned out imminently.

Long spent time on loan at Barnsley and MK Dons last season as he continued his recovery from a cruciate knee ligament injury suffered against Newcastle in the Premier League season of 2014/15.
