FORMER Burnley goalkeeper Matt Gilks has signed for Rangers on a two-year deal.

The 34-year-old Scotland international has spent the last two years at Turf Moor but he was told his contract wasn't being renewed this summer.

The former Blackpool goalkeeper played just two League Cup games in his two years at Burnley, where he was understudy to Tom Heaton.

After suffering an injury in the New Year Gilks lost his place on the bench when Burnley signed former Blackburn Rovers goalkeeper Paul Robinson on a short-term deal.

Robinson has yet to feature for the Clarets but he has been offered a new contract at Turf Moor, which he is yet to sign.

Gilks becomes the second player to move to Rangers at the end of their Burnley contract this summer, with Joey Barton also signing a two-year deal with the Scottish Premiership side.

Gilks will travel to South Carolina with the rest of the Rangers squad for a pre-season training camp next week and he is expected to provide competition for current number one Wes Foderingham.
