JASON Lowe has urged Blackburn Rovers to put pride in the shirt by winning the final two games of the season.

The first of which comes at Rotherham United on Saturday where Rovers are set to be roared on by more than 1,000 supporters.

Both teams have little to play for after MK Dons’ defeat to Brentford at the weekend ensured they were mathematically safe from the drop.

But fit-again Lowe insists Rovers have an obligation to try and put a smile back on the face of Rovers fans after a deeply underwhelming campaign.

He said: “All you can do now is play for your own pride as a team. The league, certainly down at the lower end, is all sewn up.

“So some people are on holiday-mode. They’ve played 40-odd games this year and, with not an awful lot to play for but pride, it’s sometimes difficult.

“But your job is to win a game and hopefully we can win the last two and give the fans something to smile about going into the break because they’ve not had a lot to smile about over the course of the year.

“Fans at any football club are very, very important so it’s a case of let’s finish as strongly as we can, let’s wear the shirt with some pride, and try and get six points out of six.”

Rotherham, who have been revived under Neil Warnock, are currently on a club-record 11-match unbeaten run.

Rovers in contrast will head to the New York Stadium having failed to win any of their last six games and having won just one in nine.

Lowe admits the downturn in form has left the dressing room feeling ‘deflated’.

But he accepts they have no-one but themselves to blame for their lowly position in the table.

Lowe said: “It’s a little deflated because you start off the year with high hopes and we’ve been inconsistent throughout.

“We’ve had decent spells but the inconsistency has cost us and it’s why we are where we are.

“At the end of the year the table doesn’t lie. It’s no fluke why you’re at the top and it’s no fluke why you’re down the bottom.

“We’ve been our own worst enemy at times. We’ve played some great stuff at times without capitalising on it and we’ve been our own worst enemy costing us goals in games.

“Hopefully we can get two clean sheets and six points from the last two games and put some pride in the shirt, send the fans home happy and then start again next year.”

On Saturday Lowe is hoping to start his third straight match after recovering from the serious foot injury that has restricted him to eight appearances this season.

“I’ve felt good since I’ve come back, I’ve felt strong, and the more I play, the better and fitter I will become,” said the 24-year-old, speaking at a Kick It Out workshop held at Langho St Leonard’s Primary School.

“The season is nearly over, which I’m disappointed about, but that’s life, and on a personal and a collective level hopefully we can finish strongly, get two wins and go into the break with a little bit of pride.”
