FOR the second week running Danny Graham will be facing one of his old clubs tomorrow but it is the thrill of the new that has got Blackburn Rovers fans excited ahead of the visit of Hull City.

The clash with the Tigers will provide the Ewood Park faithful with their first sighting of the new three-man frontline boss Paul Lambert believes can fire Rovers up the Championship.

Graham linked up with fellow January transfer window signings Jordi Gomez and Tony Watt for the first time to impressive effect in last Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Middlesbrough.

And now the striker is determined to serve up another display of industry and menace in what is set to be the trio’s first home appearances for Rovers.

“It was pleasing,” said Graham, who has signed on loan from Sunderland for the rest of the season, just like Gomez, who marked his debut with a brilliant goal against Boro.

“I’ve played with Jordi at Sunderland so I know what he is all about and what ability he has.

“On his day he has a wand of a left foot and he did one of those strikes in training on the first day he got here. He managed to get one on Saturday but his work ethic, his touch, his movement… everything was spot-on. Hopefully he can be a big player for us.

Lancashire Telegraph:

“I didn’t know so much about Tony. Obviously everybody has seen his goal for Celtic against Barcelona and he’s got a lot of hype to live up to with that.

“But for a young lad he’s come in and done ever so well and he was a real threat on Saturday.

“He’s good on the ball and hopefully we can work well together.

“But it was only one performance. We can’t get ahead of ourselves.

“We need to keep working hard on the training ground and keep taking it into matches.”

The visit to the club where he started his career was only Graham’s second outing in a Rovers shirt having been cup-tied for the FA Cup win at Oxford United.

But he believes the performance against Middlesbrough was vastly improved on the one produced in the 1-1 draw at Charlton Athletic two weeks earlier.

“We’ve raised the standard and that’s the standard we need to keep now,” said Graham, who went back on loan to Boro, as well as Hull, during an unhappy three-year spell at Sunderland which will end in the summer when his contract expires.

“From one to 11 I thought the boys were superb. And the boys who came on were at the same level. They have kept the boys in the starting line-up on their toes.

“If we can stay at that level then we’ll get the three points we are looking for.”

Rovers, while unbeaten in four matches in all competitions, will bid to end their eight-game winless league run tomorrow.

And Graham, who scored one goal for the Tigers during a loan spell at the start of the 2013-14 season, said: “Everyone seems to be a former club of mine at the minute!

“Hull are another solid outfit with a lot of Premier League players. The gaffer is still there from when I was there as well as the staff and a lot of the players.

“I know it’s going to be a tough game but we’ve got to worry about ourselves. We need to build on the confidence we’ve gained in the last couple of games and kick on and get the three points.

“Performances have gradually improved and if we can improve further then I’m sure we won’t have any problems getting the result we’re looking for.”
