BLACKBURN Rovers boss Paul Lambert believes he has now has the flexibility to change formations when he sees fit.

Lambert went with a new-look midfield diamond in last Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Middlesbrough.

That meant wingers Craig Conway and Elliott Bennett had to start the Riverside Stadium clash on the bench.

But while the system proved a success Lambert has confirmed that there will be matches – possibly even tomorrow’s at home to Hull City – when he adopts a different set-up.

“That’s the beauty about it,” said the Scot of his squad, which was bolstered by the arrival of six new signings in the January transfer window.

“It’s flexible now and I can change to whatever system I want to do. The system for this game (Hull) could change. It’s something I’ll look at it.

“It’s horses for courses now, as the saying goes. I’ve got the options of playing different systems and those options have been created by the lads coming in.”

Along with Conway, another key player for Rovers this season, centre-back Shane Duffy, was named among the substitutes against Middlesbrough after new boy Elliott Ward kept his place in the side.

But with Rovers kick-starting a run of 11 matches in 36 days tomorrow Lambert said: “With the amount of games we’ve got coming up, everyone is going to play anyway, so it was important to get people into positions where it’s going to be gruelling for them.

“Shane was a hard one to leave out but Wardy came in and played exceptionally well.

“Shane has been playing brilliant for us but that’s a decision I had to make and I’ll have to make some more.”
