SEAN Dyche is happy to see Sam Vokes continue to fly under the radar - despite his good form for Burnley.

Vokes' winning goal against Hull was his fourth in six games, including the equaliser at the Emirates in the FA fourth round tie with Arsenal.

The Wales international had scored four in his first 25 games for the club this season, but he has now doubled his tally and his partnership with Andre Gray is flourishing.

Between them they have 24 goals for the Clarets this season, with 23 in the Championship, as they look to match the tally set by Vokes and Danny Ings in the promotion season of 2013/2014.

On that occasion Burnley's deadly duo hit 47 goals between them, with 41 coming in the league.

And Dyche is delighted with the way Vokes is performing at the moment in a team that has gone seven league fixtures unbeaten.

"It’s fantastic. I’ve said all season that Vokesy goes under the radar sometimes," said the Clarets chief.

"That’s why we got him under a new contract, because we see what he is as a person and as a player. He’s delivering good performances this season.

"He wants goals but he’s happy when the team is winning and he’s making goals as well."

Although his personal tally may have doubled in recent weeks, Vokes has played a crucial role all season in laying on goals for Gray and helping create space for Burnley's £6million man.

Of his striker's recent goal glut after a quiet start, Dyche said: "That can be how it is for striker. He’s made a few for Andre. It’s important he stays focused on his role and his team role."

Vokes and Gray have Rouwen Hennings and Chris Long fighting for places up front, while injured strikers Ashley Barnes and Lukas Jutkiewicz could add to that competition when they return from serious knee injuries.

Barnes suffered anterior cruciate ligament and medial collateral ligament damage on the final day of the Premier League season, but the 26-year-old is continuing to edge closer to a return.

He is targeting a comeback before the end of this campaign and Dyche revealed the former Brighton striker is back in light training sessions with the first team.

"Barnesy is doing well. He’s on the borderline of soft sessions with us," he said.

"He might drop in as a floater or an end man in a passing game with a view to feeling his way back in.

"He’s very fit, he’s worked very hard, but that last bit is coming in with the team, working with the team and operating with the team every day.

"He’s not quite there yet and we’re being mindful of the progress he has made."
