IT would make a good Blackburn Rovers quiz question: which player made three straight appearances for three different clubs? The answer? That’ll be new striker Tony Watt.

Watt started the month at Cardiff City before returning to parent club Charlton Athletic where he made his comeback match against Rovers who, less than a week later, signed him on an initial loan until the end of the season.

Little wonder, then, the 22-year-old is desperate to put down some roots and, after seeing a permanent move to Cardiff dramatically collapse, he wants to do that at Ewood Park.

Watt made the perfect start to his Rovers career by scoring in last Saturday’s3-0 FA Cup win at Oxford United but, ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Middlesbrough, he believes he can play much better.

“That’s my last three games with three different clubs but I’m just happy to be settled now and to get a goal,” said the Scotland Under-21 international after the Kassam Stadium cake walk.

“I was a bit off the pace for the first 35 minutes because, I don’t know, maybe there were a few nerves, and I’ve had a bit of congestion in my stomach, but no excuses. I need to get up to the pace, which I know I will.

“The gaffer has put a lot of trust in me and I got a goal for him and I hope I can continue that.

“It’s the best feeling in the world when you score goals, especially on your debut, and maybe I needed it because I was a bit off the pace. I got took off as I had a calf niggle and hopefully I can be involved against Middlesbrough as well.”

However Watt could so easily have been lining up for Cardiff this weekend.

He said: “I passed every stage of medical. I’d had three days’ worth of medicals and I was ready to sign on the dotted line but then I got a text to say they were under an embargo.

“But I’m a big believer in what’s for you won’t go past you and everything happens for a reason. Now I’m at a massive club.

“I was never staying at Charlton. A lot happened behind the scenes that I can’t really speak about but it left me a bit disheartened and a bit sad. It’s a beautiful club but I’m not there anymore so I don’t want to talk about it.

“I’m happy I’ve moved on and we’ll have to see what happens in the summer. I’d love to be here for a long time working under the gaffer. It’s a big club and I thrive off playing games with atmospheres and hopefully I can do my best at Ewood Park and see what I can do.”
