GARY Bowyer says it is his players who deserve the credit for turning Blackburn Rovers’ season around.

But Bowyer insists they will not be getting carried away after their upturn continued with a superb 2-0 success at home to Ipswich Town on Saturday.

Rovers will go into the international break on the back of a four-match unbeaten run after producing what their manager described as the most complete performance of his Ewood Park reign.

Throughout their seven-game winless start to the Championship campaign Bowyer always maintained his side were playing better than their results suggested.

And he believes they deserve the plaudits that are now coming their way after never losing their self-belief during their barren run.

The Rovers boss said: “I think all credit has to go to the players.

“They never lacked confidence or belief in what they were trying to achieve and what they were trying to do.

“It’s full credit to them because they’ve carried on that same form with their performances.

“We’ve played 10 games now, and people use 10 games as a measure, but I still believe we should have had more points than we’ve got because of how our performances have been.

“You go through spells like we did at the start when our performances weren’t getting the results we deserved but now they are starting to pick up.

“That’s three home games on the run we’ve kept clean sheets, and scored five goals, and we’ve shown a great resilience away from home, and we need to make sure we continue that.

“We can’t and won’t get carried away and what we’ve got to try and do is maintain that, and improve even further.

“And I think there’s certainly room for improvement in our squad. The players have wanted to improve and they’ve worked ever so hard.

“They’ve never lost confidence or belief in their performances and what ability they have got.”

Rovers will return to action on Saturday week when they travel to out-of-form MK Dons.

By then the hope is that their injury-hit squad will be boosted by the return of Matt Kilgallon (defender), Danny Guthrie (thigh) and possibly Fode Koita (hamstring).

But Chris Brown will spend the next six weeks on the sidelines after undergoing a minor knee operation.

Bowyer, who will also be without Jason Lowe until this Christmas, was philosophical about whether the break has come at a bad time for Rovers just when they are building up a head of steam.

He said: “The break comes when it comes.

“With the embargo and the limited numbers that we’ve got, it gives us a chance to clear some bodies up for the next stint of games.

“Our job is to come back fresh and ready to go again.

“And we’re hoping that come the game at MK we’ll certainly have a clean bill of health barring those two (Lowe and Brown).”

Grant Hanley and Jordan Rhodes, who made it seven goals in five matches with a first-half brace against Ipswich, will join up with the Scotland squad this week.

Corry Evans, with Northern Ireland, Adam Henley and Tom Lawrence, with Wales, and Darragh Lenihan, with Republic of Ireland Under-21s, will also be on international duty.

But Shane Duffy will remain at Brockhall after Republic of Ireland’s provisional 40-man squad, which he was named in, was reduced to 27.
