DARWEN'S last home match of the season resulted in their fourth win running at the Anchor ground, and maintained their seventh spot in the North West Counties League Division Two.

It was against the run of play that the first goal arrived.

The ball was cleared from the home defence to the halfway line, but a Leek foot booted it back.

The ball hit Rutter on the edge of the Darwen area, and he reacted quickly to turn and place a shot beyond the reach of Danny Holland in goal.

A minute before half time Darwen were given a golden opportunity to even up the score when Stuart Telfer was tripped inside the box.

Jason Jones stepped up to take the spot kick, but his power shot sailed over the bar.

Darwen did equalise 10 minutes into the second half.

A long free kick by Danny Holland from halfway inside his own half found Stuart Telfer on the right.

He controlled the ball, beat his opponent and put a wicked cross into the Leek penalty area.

Keeper Deaville flapped at the ball, which fell to Martin Parkes, and was promptly blasted into the net.

On 62 minutes, Paul Mashiter chased a ball down the right, dribbled into the box, and slid a shot across the goal line which Heath just managed to clear for a home corner.

A one-two between Stuart Telfer and Jason Jones from the corner resulted in a shot by Jones towards goal.

The Leek defence couldn't clear the danger, and Paul Mashiter was waiting near the spot to hook the ball into the net.
