"London Calling" by the Clash is still one of my favourite records, despite it being played at Old Trafford to celebrate Chelsea's semi-final victory.

It's not a call, however, that Rovers appear to welcome.

Saturday's point at Fulham was our first in the capital all season.

By all accounts it should have been all three and a victory would have kept alive our outside chances of securing a UEFA Cup place, which now looks a pretty remote prospect.

Indeed, realistically, we should be relatively happy to hang on to our present tenth position ahead of a chasing pack of clubs that are only a point or two behind us, albeit having played a game more.

Tenth place would mean a top half finish for the second season running.

While that would not secure European football for next season, it would present an opportunity for Mark Hughes to concentrate on mustering a real charge for a top six finish in the next campaign.

While we are on the subject of bogey teams and songs let me render a variation of an old Rovers favourite:

"Chim chiminey, chim chiminey, chim chim, cheroo why can't we beat teams in Claret and Blue (Burnley excepted of course)".

To allow one team wearing such shirts to do the double over us may be regarded as misfortune, but to allow both West Ham and Aston Villa to beat us home and away is unforgivable carelessness.

For one thing, it deprives us of the pleasure of singing "are you Burnley in disguise".

Burnley are now, of course safe, having had a decent run of late.

How annoying was it therefore that the one game in the season where I wouldn't have minded Burnley winning was the one they lost against Leeds United?!?

I speak personally, of course, but it will be some consolation for an empty trophy cabinet, if this season ends with both West Ham and Leeds being relegated from their respective divisions.
