LEIGHTON McGivern revealed he would love to banish his injury nightmare by scoring Accrington Stanley's winning goal against Macclesfield on Saturday.

The 22-year-old Reds striker was sidelined for four months after breaking his ankle in a 3-3 draw at Macclesfield in December.

McGivern bagged his first goal for the club in that six-goal thriller at the Moss Rose Ground, just five minutes before damaging ankle ligaments.

But the former Rochdale frontman is back in action following surgery, making substitute appearances in Stanley's League Two games against Grimsby and Shrewsbury.

Despite playing through the pain barrier, McGivern is delighted to involved again and is now dreaming of shooting down relegation rivals Macclesfield in a crucial six-pointer at the Fraser Eagle Stadium.

"It would be great to get the winner on Saturday," said the former Everton schoolboy.

"I just hope to play some part of the game, because it's such a massive game for the club.

"It's been difficult for me over the last few months. It was the worst injury of my career and I thought that was the end of my season.

"I'm just glad to be playing again. The ankle still hurts a little bit at the end of games.

"But I spoke to the surgeon and he said that would be normal for 12 months."
