BLACKBURN Rovers boss Gary Bowyer plans to give most of the players who take part in tomorrow’s friendly at Accrington Stanley (3pm) at least 45 minutes in an attempt to shake off the ring rust.

The Store First Stadium clash will be the first time Rovers have taken to the field since their Championship campaign came to a close on May 2.

And Bowyer said: “The main of aim of the game will be getting 45 minutes under the belt, getting used to being back playing again and getting the timings back.

“We’re looking to come through 45 minutes, with no injuries, and come off pleased with a good afternoon’s work.”

On-trial midfielders Dean Furman and Giles Coke will play some part in Rovers’ first friendly of the summer.

But Bowyer must decide whether to throw Shane Duffy, Jason Lowe, Adam Henley and Corry Evans straight back into action.

Duffy and Lowe both missed the final three months of last season with serious injuries while Henley and Evans only returned to training on Monday after being an extra week off as a result of their international excursions with Wales and Northern Ireland.

Bowyer will also not risk any players who are carrying knocks at the end of the first two weeks of pre-season.

Rovers head to Portugal on Monday for a seven-day warm-weather training camp before returning to friendly action at Rochdale on Tuesday, July 21.

And Bowyer said: “We’ve upped the training this week in terms of intensity and we’re doing numerous sessions a day.

“That intensity and the quality of the work will go up another notch when we go out to Portugal.

“We’ve been to the same place for the last two years. It’s a fantastic setting but it’ll be all about the work.

“But credit to the lads. They’ve come back in great shape and a lot of them were coming back before the due date.

“That’s certainly showed in the levels of testing that we’ve done and the performances in the sessions we’ve put on so far.”

Rovers’ squad tomorrow is expected to include youngsters John O’Sullivan and Connor Mahoney.

O’Sullivan, 21, enjoyed a successful loan spell at Stanley last season before making the breakthrough into Bowyer’s senior side after returning from another stint away from Ewood Park with Barnsley.

Mahoney, 18, started his career with Accrington and made five appearances for the club before joining Rovers in December 2013.

There are restrictions on the amount of established players Bowyer can have in his squad this season after the club were placed under a Financial Fair Play embargo.

And the Rovers manager said: “We’ve said to the whole group of young ones that they’ll never have a better opportunity this season, what with the rules of the embargo and the fact that we can only have 24 established players.

“It’s up to them to put themselves forward with their performances in training and in games.”

Admission for tomorrow’s friendly will cost £15 for adults, £10 for over 65s and students, and £5 for under 17s.
