BLACKBURN Rovers’ embargo for failing Financial Fair Play means they will be restricted to loan signings and free transfers this summer.

It also means they can have no more than 24 established players on their books and that any new recruit cannot be paid more than around £10,000-per-week.

Gary Bowyer, then, is going to have to work some magic in a fiercely competitive market.

But the Rovers boss has in the past, with the likes of Rudy Gestede, Craig Conway, Tommy Spurr and Matt Kilgallon, proved he can make a little go a long way.

MORE TOP STORIES:

And, while Bowyer will certainly have his own ideas on the subject, we look at some of the potential options who could be lured to Rovers.

Doneil Henry

Rovers will be well stocked in defence once everyone is fit but should they need reinforcing they need look no further than the West Ham United centre-back who impressed during his short stay at Ewood Park earlier this season.

But firstly the 22-year-old has to recover from the hamstring injury that cut short his loan spell with Rovers.

Jamie Ward

Lancashire Telegraph:

Eyebrows were raised when Derby County announced they would be releasing the Northern Ireland international winger midway through his two-year deal.

Experienced, direct, and a winner with an eye for a goal – he scored twice at Ewood Park this season for the Rams – the 29-year-old is exactly the type of player Rovers need.

But whether they could afford him is another matter.

Stephen Quinn

Lancashire Telegraph:

The same applies to Hull City’s terrier-like midfielder.

The Republic of Ireland international, 29, was reportedly one of the players offered to Rovers by the Tigers when they were trying to sign Jordan Rhodes in August.

Despite establishing himself in Steve Bruce’s side since then, Quinn is set to become a free agent in July.

Modou Barrow

Lancashire Telegraph:

The Swansea City flyer gave Markus Olsson as tough a time as any winger this season when playing for Nottingham Forest.

The 22-year-old has since returned to the Swans but if they feel the newcomer to English football needs another loan away from the Liberty Stadium, could Ewood Park be a possible destination?

Cameron Brannagan

The 19-year-old Liverpool midfielder is firmly in Brendan Rodgers plans’ for the future – he was an unused substitute in the FA Cup quarter-final replay at Ewood Park in March – but would a loan spell away from Anfield aid his development?

Brannagan has the ability to link defence to attack and he possesses a genuine goal threat from the centre of the park.

Chris Wood

Rovers fans will be delighted if Josh King signs a new contract and if Jordan Rhodes and Rudy Gestede remain at the club.

But in all likelihood at least one will leave and 23-year-old New Zealand international Wood, a proven Championship striker, could be available on loan from Leicester City.
