NICKY Hunt’s season is not over, after the Accrington Stanley defender had his suspension for his red card against Stevenage Borough reduced on appeal.

The 31-year-old was sent off by referee Scott Mathieson in the second minute for an incident involving Charlie Lee.

Hunt was accused of punching Lee, after the Stevenage striker tried to interrupt Hunt’s attempts to take a quick throw-in at the Store First Stadium on Saturday.

Stanley went on to lead twice, before League Two play-off chasers Stevenage salvaged a late draw.

Hunt was facing a three-match ban, which would have brought a premature end to his season with only two games remaining.

But the club submitted a claim of excessive punishment, which was upheld by an Independent Regulatory Commission.

As such, Hunt has had his punishment reduced to a one-match suspension.

That means the former Bolton Wanderers right back will miss Saturday’s trip to Dagenham and Redbridge, but will be available for the final game of the season at home to Mansfield Town on May 2.

Stanley manager John Coleman said: “Anyone who knows Nicky knows he isn’t a violent person.

“He’s an experienced professional and he’s not going to punch someone within two minutes of a game.”
