ROBERTO Martinez insisted that Kevin Mirallas did not deserve a red card for his challenge on George Boyd in Everton’s 1-0 win over Burnley.

Mirallas jumped into a challenge and caught Boyd on the shin with his studs early in the second half and surprisingly received only a yellow card from referee Mike Jones.

Burnley’s Ashley Barnes had earlier been sent off for a second bookable offence.

Asked about the Mirallas tackle, Martinez said: “I don’t think it’s a red card at all, he stands on his feet, he’s well controlled.

“It’s just a normal action, it’s not a malicious challenge from Kevin, it’s more a typical striker’s challenge.

“I was very pleased with our overall performance, we had over 20 attempts.

“There was always the respect that we have towards Burnley and the way they can create chances out of very little.”
