ARSENE Wenger brought his Arsenal to Turf Moor on the back of seven consecutive victories and ‘little’ Burnley put up a very determined fight. But it just wasn’t enough to get the three points which would have helped in our fight for survival.

The obvious cause for this is a lack of goals as we have failed to score in five of the last six games.

Playing at this level, you need to take the chances when on offer. The previous week against Spurs, Danny Ings squandered one, this week it was George Boyd’s turn, when he mis-kicked from 10 yards.

The Arsenal goal was like a game of ping-pong as Tom Heaton saved from Mesut Ozil, then Alexis Sanchez’s follow-up was blocked by Kieran Trippier, but the rebound fell just right for Aaron Ramsey to smash it into the roof of the net.

After that I felt we defended very well, but didn’t really trouble Arsenal at the opposite end.

Another factor that went against us was referee Mike Dean. I’ve criticised officials in the past, and surely Dean will have nightmares about some of his decisions during the game.

To hear the crowd chant “cheat, cheat” towards the Arsenal players and do nothing about it must be cause for alarm. And if he had the nerve to watch his performance on Match of the Day I’m sure he will realise he had a bad game.

Looking back on the match, I felt we matched Arsenal for long periods in the second half, but we didn’t have anyone in midfield who could open up their defence.

This is why we are lacking goals, and the next fixture, away to Everton at Goodison, is another battle to be won.

We have six games left, with three of those against fellow strugglers. These are the games we must get - hopefully - maximum points from to ensure our safety. I just hope we don’t have to travel to Aston Villa on the final day needing the points to survive. I hope we manage it by then.
