CLITHEROE chalked up their first UniBond Division One win in four attempts, coming back from behind to beat Belper with Chris Ward bagging a double.

The Blues made a superb start at Shawbridge when striker Ward netted on two minutes from a left-wing free-kick.

But the home side's joy was cut short when Belper rallied to grab an immediate equaliser, Lee Stevenson forcing in after Town had struck the crossbar, despite the best efforts from Gregg Anderson to clear the ball.

On 13 minutes, the visitors then snatched the lead when Stevenson's powerful shot through a crowded goal-mouth beat Clitheroe stopper Danny Woodhead.

But the Blues hit back eight minutes later after Will Exton had been hauled down in the penalty box.

Ward stepped up to convert the spot-kick for his second of the afternoon.

Joel Byrom then struck the bar before half-time, and the Blues midfielder also saw another good saved after the interval.

But on 63 minutes, the home side gained the lead when Will Exton was able to put Ryan Fisher clear on goal and, with only the goalkeeper to beat, Fisher finished superbly.

Despite some frenetic final few minutes, Clitheroe hung on for a valuable win.
