BURNLEY'S away kit has won a top football award.

The Clarets' yellow strip scooped the Best Kit Design Award at the 2007 Football League Awards.

It beat the kits of Huddersfield Town, Hull City, Norwich City, Milton Keynes Dons and Mansfield Town for its 'good use of colour and innovative use of the Claret chest band to create a striking design.'

Chief executive Dave Edmundson, who received the award at a gala dinner at London's Grosvenor House Hotel, described the kit as a "lucky omen" as the players donned it for wins at Leicester, Stoke and Luton, and the draw at Colchester this season.

"I'm delighted to have got this award," he said.

"The manager had some input into it as did our kit suppliers Errea, who worked with us throughout the kit design and they've been a fantastic help.

"Steve Cotterill wanted something very distinctive and the players certainly feel that the kit is emblematic.

"It's also been a bit lucky because we've done well away from home this season and hopefully will continue to do so."

Fabrizio Taddei, sales director of Errea, added: "It's fantastic news.

"We always knew we had a good design but to be voted the best of all the clubs in the Football League is magnificent.

"We look forward to continuing our healthy relationship with the club and producing more successful designs."

With a trip to Southend a week tonight likely to provide the next opportunity to showcase the kit, the Clarets will be hoping they are dressed for success.

l THE awards highlights show will be shown on Sky Sports 1 at 6.30pm on Thursday.

I can't wait for the new merchandise, such as the burnley mugs honours list: 1914 - FA Cup winners, 1961 First Division Chamions, 2007 - Best away kit!

You could get your facts right first, it was 1960 we were last First Division Champions!

All dressed up and nowhere to go-except sliding down the table! All we need to do now is win a football match!! The next award will be for the longest number of Championship games without a win - 15 and counting!

Yes ok claret, I couldn't remember if it was 60 or 61 but it wasn't really essential to my point. I also spelt champion wrong. Luckily I'm not making the honours list mugs.

Leave claret alone. His ability to remember that far back should be commended. Be thankful that your comments have not been removed.
