BLACKBURN Rovers boss Gary Bowyer has branded the January transfer window a ‘long-winded farce’ designed to make ‘everybody run around like idiots’ on its last day.

Bowyer says it is a waste of time the window being open for a whole month as most of the deals are only done late on in it.

That is why he is imploring the authorities to reduce the window to a week in the middle of January for the sake of supporters, players and clubs.

Bowyer, who was last night again linked with a loan move for Bolton Wanderers midfielder Jay Spearing, aid: “I think the people that run the game should look at the January window.

“We’re now getting into the last couple of days of it and that’s when everyone starts doing their business so to have a month of it is farcical in my opinion.

“They should just say, ‘right, here’s a week in January, there you go, we’re not going to play a game the Saturday before and the Saturday after, everybody knows it’s a week, now crack on with it’.

“Then all this distraction and interference for everybody involved in football – the supporters, the staff and the players – it gets sorted in a week.

“It would make it a whole lot better and simpler rather than it being a long-winded, stupid, jab, jab, jab thing, before all of a sudden, Sky make a big programme of it on the last day and everybody runs around like idiots trying to get deals done.

“When you put it like that, it’s stupid, so it’s something for the people who run the game to look at.

“And I’m sure there are loads of people who would agree with me.”

Rovers have received bids for top-scorers Rudy Gestede and Jordan Rhodes from Premier League clubs in the last two transfers windows.

And Bowyer said; “Your players get distracted by it, of course they do.

“We’ve had it with Jordan Rhodes and we’ve had it with Rudy Gestede. It’s the same with every club.

“A week is enough to get all your business done because if you go through all the deals that have been done so far how many is it? Could you count them on one hand?

“But come Monday night when the yellow dresses and ties come out on Sky there will be loads of deals getting done. It’s crazy.”

Gestede was yesterday linked with Swansea City and QPR after Crystal Palace had a £3.5m bid rejected earlier this month.

But, ahead of Monday’s deadline, Bowyer said there were no ‘new developments’ on the 13-goal striker’s future.

Gestede came off with a leg injury against Derby County on Tuesday.

Captain Grant Hanley and midfielder Tom Cairney were also forced off with knocks in the 2-0 defeat.

The trio did not train at a snow-hit Brockhall yesterday.

But Hanley, at least, should be fit for tomorrow’s visit of Fulham to Ewood Park.

Bowyer said: “Another 24 hours might help one or two of them and we’ll give them as long as possible.”

Fulham will be boosted by the return of former England international midfielder Scott Parker.
