ACCRINGTON Stanley’s dejected players must now turn their attentions to finishing in the League Two play-offs come May.

That is the message from manager John Coleman, who challenged his players to earn the right to play in the division above next season after their FA Cup dream died in the pouring rain at Huish Park.

The 2-0 defeat means Yeovil will face Manchester United in the New Year, but Coleman said his side had proved they were better than their opposition from the league above over the two games.

“I think we’re a better team than Yeovil,” he said. “We showed we were a better team than Notts County (who the Reds beat in the first round).

“Even the most hardened Yeovil fan wouldn’t disagree that we were clearly the better team over the two legs but you don’t always get what you deserve, but congratulations to Yeovil.

“We’ve got to use the motivation to try and take their place in League One, there’s no reason why we can’t, I think we’re better than them.

“We’ve got good players who can mount a challenge and we’ve got to use that.”

Coleman said his side would have gone into the third round believing they could beat United, but added his players must now make it a league campaign to remember.

“That’s got to be your focus,” he said. “We’d have gone in thinking we could beat United, like we believe we can win every game.

“But I think it’s a bit far fetched to say you’re going to win the FA Cup, that journey has to end somewhere, it’s ended, but what we have got is a league campaign to focus on.”

Coleman added: “The United game would come and go, obviously you want to be in there and you want to have your moment, but when it all comes down to it January 4 will quickly come and go, and you’re left with what’s left of the season.

“I think we’ve got a lot more to look forward to than Yeovil in a league campaign.”
