MIDDLESBROUGH will be backed by the largest travelling support in the Championship so far this season when they make the trip to Blackburn Rovers on Sunday, December 28.

The biggest away following in the 2014-15 Championship campaign was recorded by Leeds United last month when they brought 6,839 fans to Ewood Park for their last-gasp 2-1 Roses defeat to Rovers.

But Boro have already surpassed that amount after selling all 7,000 tickets for the festive clash.

It will be the second meeting of the sides in a month after Rovers grabbed a dramatic 1-1 draw at the Riverside Stadium on November 29.

Boro, who are up to second in the standings after an impressive 2-0 home win over Derby County on Saturday, dominated most of the match and eventually took the lead in the 83rd minute through on-loan Chelsea star Patrick Bamford.

But Rovers, who have failed to take a point from their two games since, equalised in controversial fashion, five minutes into injury-time, through Rudy Gestede.

Rovers, who entertain Charlton Athletic on Saturday, have sold out all 4,265 tickets for their Boxing Day derby at Bolton Wanderers.
