BLACKBURN Rovers boss Gary Bowyer is weighing up ringing the changes for the visit of Charlton Athletic to Ewood Park this weekend after being left ‘majorly disappointed’ by their second successive defeat.

Rovers suffered back-to-back losses for the first time this season on Saturday after a shambolic defensive display led to them being beaten 3-1 at Brentford.

Bowyer as good as admitted afterwards that his side, who are now four points off the play-off places in eighth, can kiss their promotion hopes goodbye if they do not become harder to break down.

He also conceded that they must cut out their now customary slow starts to matches.

And when asked whether a change in personnel may be required to solve the problems that have blighted Rovers’ season so far he refused to rule it out.

Bowyer said: “It’s a possibility. There are some people coming back into the squad who are fit and who are going to give us a problem.

“We need more from everybody else, that’s for sure.

“We’ve got the personnel there so, if we feel there is a need to change it, we can do that.

“We’re majorly disappointed.”

No team in the top half of the Championship have conceded more goals than Rovers, who have been in front at half-time on only three occasions this season.

Bowyer said: “You can’t achieve anything if you keep giving goals away.

“They’re an honest bunch and that’s a massive positive because you can be very honest and that’s one of the things we’ve spoken about.

“We’ve talked about conceding too many soft goals and we’ve talked about how we don’t start playing until the first one goes in. That’s not right.

“We’re going to have to work very, very hard and get ready for Charlton.”

Rovers have six players on the sidelines going into the clash with the 10th-placed Addicks.

Long-term injury victims Josh King (back), Matt Kilgallon (knee) and Tommy Spurr (groin) remain on the comeback trail while there are fresh concerns over Tom Cairney and Chris Brown.

Cairney continues to struggle with the ankle knock that was troubling him even before his last appearance for Rovers at home to Leeds United four games ago.

Brown, meanwhile, complained of soreness in his knee in training ahead of the trip to Griffin Park.

Having spent four months on the sidelines with the problem the striker was not risked.

Better news for Rovers was the return of the versatile Jason Lowe after more than three months out with a stress fracture in his foot.

The versatile midfielder came on for Alex Baptiste on Saturday and his performance from the bench was one of the few positives Bowyer, who was also without Chris Taylor through illness, could cling to.

Bowyer was also pleased by the impact made by fellow substitutes David Dunn and Jordan Rhodes and the efforts of midfielders Corry Evans and Ryan Tunnicliffe.

But he saved what little praise he did give out for left-back Markus Olsson who was Rovers’ best player on a miserable afternoon in the capital.

Bowyer said: “I thought Markus Olsson was excellent, he put in some fantastic balls but we didn’t do enough to get on the end of them.”
