BLACKBURN Rovers’ youngsters had to come from behind twice as they earned a 2-2 draw with West Bromwich Albion.

Yann Songo’o and Jordan Preston scored second half goals for the Under 21s to cancel out efforts from Samir Nabi and Tavhon Campbell for the visitors.

Rovers were behind inside nine minutes at Leigh Sports Village after a quick start from the Baggies, with Adil Nabi threading a ball through to his brother Samir, who fired past Ryan Crump in goal.

Albion continued to control the game, with Adil Nabi again the provider, sending Alex Jones through, but his shot was sent wide.

That man Nabi then struck a post early on in the second half but it was Rovers who levelled the match on 67 minutes.

Kellen Daly sent a teasing ball into the area and Songo’o rose highest in the area to head home.

But parity didn’t last long as substitute Campbell took advantage of some defensive hesitancy to score a minute later.

Rovers pressed for the equaliser, with captain Bradley Bauress seeing his shot blocked, while Hyuga Tanner headed a cross wide.

Seven minutes from time the hosts were given the chance to equalise for a second time.

Sam Lavelle was held down as he went to head a Connor Mahoney corner, and the referee pointed to the spot.

Substitute Jordan Preston made no mistake from 12 yards, sending his spot kick into the top right corner.

Under 21s coach Eric Kinder was happy with point.

“After our first half performance we were lucky to only come in 1-0 down, we were as poor as we've been,” he said.

“Our second half was a lot better than the first, but it shows how far we've come when you walk into that dressing room and everybody has their heads down and we've drawn 2-2 against a Premier League side.

“There's a bit of sprit about us, we didn't give up, last season we'd have lost that one. The lads kept going right to the end.”
