EVERYONE who knows me knows that Everton is my team. I’ve made no secret of it. But I honestly wouldn’t mind if the Clarets unwrapped their first three Premier League points of the season against the Toffees.

Both clubs are close to my heart. I grew up supporting the Blues and went on to have happy times playing football at Turf Moor. But if there could only be one winner tomorrow then I would not begrudge Burnley.

They need that first win sooner rather than later, and although Everton aren’t in the best of form at the moment in the long run I’m confident we’ll have enough to stay out of trouble, even if we were to drop points at Turf Moor.

Anyone familiar with Evertonians will know that our glasses are usually half empty. If there is a run of any nature to be broken, you can almost guarantee it will be against us.

So, with that in mind, to us it is already written in the stars that Burnley will break their duck and Lukas Jutkiewicz, a former Everton striker, will score his first Premier League goal as part of that win tomorrow.

He will be relishing his chance against his old team, especially after having a goal ruled out for offside last weekend.

Based on Burnley’s first half performance against West Ham United last weekend the winless start looked as though it would come to a welcome end.

But that game just shows the importance of making sure you put away chances when they come along. Burnley need to punish teams when on top, and at the same time be switched on at the other end of the park too.

It is easier said than done in the Premier League. We all knew it was going to be tough in the top flight but every game has served as a reminder.

You come up against really good, organised sides week after week and at both ends of the park it is vitally important that you stay on top of your game.

It wasn’t for a lack of trying against the Hammers. There were certainly enough efforts on goal, with Ashley Barnes denied only by the woodwork, so you sense it’s only a matter of time before the luck turns.

Burnley will be looking to capitalise on any potential fatigue in the Everton camp.

The Toffees have found it tough to get over their Thursday night Europa League games on the previous two outings so it will be interesting to see how they react post-Lille. It’s hard to get refreshments into the legs and get rid of any mental tiredness.

As far as the performance on the night went, I thought they proved a tough nut to crack. It will need a good performance from Burnley to break them down. But this may be a good time to play Everton.
