TOM Heaton is confident that Burnley have enough strength in depth to secure victories without strike duo Danny Ings and Sam Vokes.

The Clarets have gone five games without a goal, drawing 0-0 at home to Sunderland on Saturday, and are currently without last season’s regular forward partnership because of injury.

Ings and Vokes netted 41 of Burnley’s 72 league goals last term, making a huge impact as Sean Dyche’s side charged to promotion.

But Heaton believes the Clarets’ squad still has sufficient firepower to claim wins without them.

“One hundred per cent,” he said. “I think we’ve got enough quality in the squad to do that.

“We showed against Sunderland on Saturday that we can create chances and it’s just about one of them going in and then hopefully the floodgates will open.

“Everyone who has come into the team has done well. It’s the minimum requirement that they put the work rate in, especially with this manager, and everyone is doing that.

“Everyone is looking good, it’s just about the ball somehow going over the line and going from there.

“Wins are the next level for us now but I think you can see that we were closer again on Saturday.

“We created some good stuff and had a lot of freedom in the final third, which is what we want.

“If we keep doing that then it will certainly come.”

Ings is currently sidelined with a hamstring problem, while Vokes is a longer term absentee as he recovers from a cruciate knee ligament injury.

Heaton has been buoyed by three clean sheets in his first five appearances in the Premier League and is relishing the trip to West Bromwich Albion on Sunday.

He could face a strike force including new £10m striker Brown Ideye, who will hope to recover from an injury sustained in the League Cup last night and force himself into the Baggies’ Premier League line-up.

On the prospect of taking on such a big money buy, Heaton said: “There are not many teams in the Premier League who haven’t got that.

“They’ve certainly got big transfer budgets and I’m sure West Brom will have a lot of quality but we think we’ve got enough quality to deal with it and hopefully we’ll get the right result.

“I think the main focus will be on us, that was certainly the theme last year and again this year and if we can keep doing that it can only bode well for us.

“It’s another good game that we’re looking forward to, if we go about it in the same manner as we did against Sunderland then we’re going to give ourselves a great chance.

“Three clean sheets in a row in the Premier League has been brilliant but that’s obviously testament to the team ethic and the team shape.

“We’re rock solid and it gives us a good foundation to work from.”
