BURNLEY are in line for a repeat of their 1974 FA Cup semi-final against Newcastle following the fourth round draw.

The Clarets will travel to St James' Park should they overcome Premiership newboys Reading in tonight's re-arranged tie at the Madejski Stadium and Newcastle beat Birmingham City in next Wednesday's replay.

There are several permutations from the draw, which was made at the FA headquarters in Soho Square yesterday.

Nevertheless, Clarets fans will relish the prospect of a showdown with the Magpies - a tie which would be a throwback to the 1974 semi-final at Hillsborough when two Malcolm Macdonald goals, in front of a crowd of 55,000 fans, broke Burnley's hearts and earned the Geordies an FA Cup Wembley final against Liverpool.

It would also pit current Newcastle manager Glenn Roeder against his former side, as the former West Ham boss was assistant to Chris Waddle at Turf Moor in the 1997-98 season.

However, Clarets manager Steve Cotterill will not be looking any further ahead than tonight's re-scheduled game with Reading, which will be their second journey to Berkshire in four days after Saturday's washout.

The Burnley boss is again expected to name Ade Akinbiyi in the starting line-up for what will be the 32-year-old striker's first game of his second spell with the Clarets after re-signing from Sheffield United on New Year's Day.
