DARWEN got back to winning ways with a deserved victory over Chadderton and moved up one place to sixth in Division Two.

For the first 15 minutes neither team produced anything of note, but then a run down the Chadderton left was made by Mark Hine.

On reaching the edge of the penalty area he shot towards the goal and it slipped between the Chadderton keeper and the left hand post, into the net.

In the 43rd minute Darwen nearly went two up as a cross from the right hand corner flew across the away goal area.

Brian Fogarty dived in, but just failed to make contact.

However, two minutes later, after a foul on Richard Fogarty, the free kick by Lee Stott from 40 yards out was floated into the opposition penalty area.

Swanson managed to push the ball away, but Neil Almond gratefully returned it into the net.

Just before the interval, Chadderton fired a shot across the Darwen goal, but to no avail.

After 55 minutes Chadderton did pull a goal back when substitute Danny Taylor ran onto a pass and, with only Holland to beat, gave the keeper no chance with a neat side pass into the net.

Chadderton came closest to equalising ten minutes from time.

Goal scorer Taylor broke down the Darwen left, shadowed by full back Wood.

He released a shot from 20 yards out that looped over Holland, but luckily for the home side, it bounced onto the crossbar.
