COMING on the heels of a royal visit, and Burnley’s welcome weekend win, the ambitious plans for Turf Moor unveiled today certainly give townspeople something to smile about.
A versatile new stand which could double as East Lancashire’s largest music venue, seating up to 4,000 people for concerts, would be a fantastic addition to East Lancashire’s facilities.
In addition, chief executive Paul Fletcher, whose company already has wide experience in making things like this happen, and development director Brendan Flood, are also looking at developing a ‘football university’ on land now occupied by Burnley Cricket Club.
This would be dedicated to the study of all the various facets of a sport that is also one of this country’s best- known global businesses.
Both ideas have a long way to go before they become reality in terms of lengthy negotiations, reaching agreements and finding sources for the necessary funding. But that should not stop them aiming high and trying to turn the dream into reality.
