A CAMPAIGN to highlight the importance of farming and its role in the countryside is being taken to the people through a series of public events.
The National Farmers' Union (NFU) campaign Why Beef and Sheep Farming Matters, is being promoted through two roadshows that will serve to show the importance of local produce.
The North West events will be taking place at special venues.
An event will take place at Piccadilly Gardens, Manchester, on Friday, March 7, and a second will occur at the flag market, Preston, on Saturday, March 15.
The events will take place between 10am and 2pm and the idea is to offer passers-by samples of cooked British beef and lamb along with promotional material that detail the importance of Britain's beef and lamb industry.
NFU livestock board chairman Thomas Binns, of Downham, said: "Since 2004, the beef herd in England has fallen by 11 per cent and the sheep breeding flock by over 10 per cent."
