A cash reward has been offered in a bid to catch armed robbers who raided a Walton Summit cash and carry.

The reward of several thousand pounds is being offered by an undisclosed source for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the offenders who carried out the raid at Batley's Cash and Carry last Wednesday, October 31.

The incident happened at around 3.25pm when a Group 4 Securicor guard was robbed while collecting money from the store in Bankfield Place, Walton Summit.

Three masked attackers threatened the guard with what are described as swords and large sticks, before stealing the cash box containing a substantial amount of money and leaving in a large white Iveco van, with the registration R280 LYG.

This vehicle was seen to drive through the Walton Summit business park and onto the Clayton Brook housing estate, where it was abandoned on Brow Hey.

It is thought that the offenders then left the area in another vehicle which may have collected them from the westbound hard shoulder of the M65 between the M61 and M6 junctions.

Sgt John Cass, of Leyland CID, said: "One week on we are appealing again to members of the public for any information that will help us catch these offenders.

"An undisclosed source has put up a reward of several thousand pounds for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the offenders.

"This was a very harrowing ordeal for the guard who has been left in a state of shock after the attack.

"We are appealing for anyone who may have seen the robbery occurring or the white van in the area before or after the incident.

"We are also particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have seen a vehicle stationary, or pulling onto the M65 hard shoulder."

Anyone with any information can contact Leyland CID on 01772 415947 or via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
