A motorist who confronted a group of youths for throwing snowballs needed hospital treatment after they attacked him and stole his car.

The man was driving in South Oval, Northampton, when a group of male youths started to pelt his car with snowballs.

He stopped his car to confront the group, who then became abusive and aggressive, a police spokesman said.

The group were joined by more men, who then attacked him.

The 35-year-old, who is from Northampton, was punched in the face, causing him to fall to the ground, where he was then kicked several times.

He needed hospital treatment for his injuries, the police spokesman said.

Some of the group ran off after the attack, but other members jumped into the man's car and drove off.

Anyone who witnessed the incident, which happened between 11.30pm on Saturday February 4 and 1am on Sunday February 5, is asked to contact Northamptonshire Police or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
