THE community of Bolton's first Hindu temple celebrated its 40th year yesterday.
Worshippers at the Krishna Temple, on Beverley Road, Heaton, were joined by Bolton North-east MP David Crausby for a traditional meal and a day of prayers and song.
The community formed on October 2, 1966, and spent their first 15 years gathering in community centres across the town, including the Spinners Hall, in St George's Street, and the Bolton Lads Club.
They moved into the temple, which is on the site of a former Methodist Church, in 1981.
Krishna Temple community president, Naveen Patel, said: "The community has really grown over 40 years. This is a good way for the community to come together to celebrate the temple."
