FOLLOWERS of the Indian yoga guru Swami Ramdev have turned up in their hundreds over the past week to see him lead sessions of the ancient art.

In his first visit to the UK, the Swami Ramdev held yoga peeth - science - sessions at public workshops at the Bolton Indians Sports Club in Hacken Lane, Darcy Lever.

During his stay in Bolton, up to 800 people attended each of the workshops, with people of all ages, races and cultures travelling from as far afield as Scotland.

Daven Radia, a member of the club committee, said: "The yoga practised is about health and fitness and complements medicine.

"This is his first time he has left India, where he has a huge following. People from across the North-west and even some from as far as Glasgow came to see him. A special children's workshop was also held."

He added: "The visit also attracted interest from members of the medical profession to see the benefits yoga has. Swami Ramdev just wants people to use yoga to better themselves."
