SHOPPERS could have been forgiven for thinking that they had entered a time warp as they walked past Bury Library to see this Ford Cortina whizzing through the streets.

But the motor was being used by a BBC film crew in the area filming the second series of the hit show Life on Mars.

Classic cars and flared jeans took over the streets around the library in Silver Street as the team, including actors John Simm and Philip Glenister (pictured right) filmed.

The crew and actors had already filmed on the site of the former East Lancashire Paper Mill in Radcliffe the previous day. But their caravans and other support vehicles sparked complaints from residents near the mill site, who mistook them for travellers when they arrived on Thursday evening.

They have also been filming in the Great Lever area of Bolton.

The first series of the programme was widely acclaimed when aired on BBC1 earlier this year, and the second series is expected be shown next year. The drama, set in Manchester, features an unusual mix of crime and time travel, as Simm's character Detective Sam Tyler is transported back to 1973 after a road accident.
