ALL that lottery millionaire Mark Fielden wanted for Christmas was a new battery for his old tractor.

But the Todmorden farming enthusiast was not too disappointed when he opened his presents to find that he had missed out on the one thing at the top of his Santa list.

For he is sure it is on its way for his birthday in just a few days!

Mark, 55, of Burnley Road, won just over £1million eight years ago, but said he had never wanted an extravagant present and that this year he would be happiest with a rare six-volt battery - just the thing he needs to start him on the way to getting his old Massey Ferguson tractor back on the road.

The former textile engineer and his wife Jean, 55, stayed in Todmorden for Christmas this year, after missing their family and their home comforts when they went to Australia for the festive season in 2005.

He said: "I didn't get my battery, but I got all the usual Dad stuff - shirts and socks and two new power drills.

"I think the battery's on the cards for my birthday on January 3, so I haven't got long to wait for it.

"Once I have got it though, it could be anything between six months and two years before I get the tractor working.

"I need the battery just to get it fired up so that I can see if there's anything else wrong with it, but it's more of a labour of love than a race - it will just be an achievement to get it running."

Since winning the jackpot, Mark and Jean have both given up their jobs and when they are not travelling the world they spend their time looking after their hens, geese, cockatiels, doves and two dogs.

They spent Christmas Day with their children David and Michaela, their five grandchildren and friends, and had 13 people round the table for a dinner cooked by Jean.

"We had a brilliant time at Christmas and we're all looking forward to a great new year," said Mark.
